A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. When Kennestone Dental Designs gives you a filling, we will first remove the decayed tooth material, clean the affected area and then fill the cleaned out cavity with a composite filling material.
Our office only uses tooth-colored filling material. We do not use amalgam or silver fillings. Virtually undetectable, these fillings not only match the color of your teeth but are also very durable. Tooth-colored fillings are mainly for smaller areas of decay, chips or abrasion.
Composite is a superior restorative material because of its more desirable properties for your overall health, no swelling with age and flexible ability to be repaired without removing the entire restoration. Also, composite is bonded to the tooth so it is substantially more supportive of the remaining tooth structure versus amalgam.
